On Saturday your CMS cross-country teams traveled to Pablo to finish the season under the shining watch of the rugged Mission Mountains. Eleven western Montana teams showed up in quest of individual medals and team wins, and CMS did both.  Behind top-ten finishers Elli Berger and Audrey Huls, the girls team took third-place honors. You should be so proud of them for their guts and go. The girls have gritted and strained for every spot this year, usually against veteran, older runners. What a great job! The boys’ race--and their season record--may have come down to a shoeless sixth grader.  Moments after Jeremy Davidson came from behind in the last 50 feet to win the boys’ race, Ben Beare, Ayden Spencer, and Brady Anderson sprinted across the line as top-ten finishers themselves. The Blue Devils had taken four of the top ten spots, but the team point total was still open. Who would be fifth? Then, rounding the final turn on the heels of a plug of runners from second-place Frenchtown, appeared Bridger Huddleston, wearing only one shoe. He had chased down runner after runner to seal the Devils’ 1st place and perfect season in a shoe and a sock! Fantastic--your CMS boys may rightly claim they are the best cross-country team in the state--2022 champions!
